During my four years at Mizzou, I had the opportunity to create campaigns and recommendations for real companies on a local and national scale, which aligned with the “Mizzou Method” philosophy of providing students with practical rather than purely theoretical learning experiences.

As a part of Missouri Extension, a University of Missouri program that seeks to give back to surrounding Missouri communities to recognize its responsibility as a land-grant institution, I am currently part of a group providing business consultation services to a local horse breeder, Baker Ranch. We are helping the owners of Baker Ranch reach their goal of booking a minimum of 10 mares to each of their AQHA studs who carry winnings in barrel racing, reining, and ranch versatility, respectively. We provided new tactics that utilized listings on online horse marketplaces such as Dream Horse, Horse Clicks, and EquineNow, as well as social media advertising to meet Baker Ranch's goals.

For my honors learning-by-contract project completed in tandem with my Retail Marketing 4250 coursework, I conducted in-depth research into Macy’s retail strategy, which is currently in the middle of a multi-year overhaul. I find their decision to close one-fifth of their stores interesting, especially as many of these shopping centers are tied into the local communities and their prosperity. Furthermore, I was curious to learn more about how this change benefits a store that so heavily relied on physical retail experiences for most of their history. I investigated how they are planning to create new retail experiences that capture their original brand while staying relevant. Also, I examined whether they are planning to be lagging adopters of existing retail trends or if they plan to overcorrect and become early adopters of more accelerated retail trends. This focused investigation was a relevant extension of the retail marketing course. As this course covers a broad range of topics, this project allowed me to expand upon a range of course competencies across my study of Macy’s new strategic retail plan.
